Why Ducks & Duck Ponds?

It is entirely probable that I put too much effort into choosing a blog title and theme. I finally concluded that the best representation of myself on the internet would be as a duck:

1) I grew up liking ducks and often visited the neighborhood park to feed the ducks (in the years before the city put up “don’t feed the ducks” signs). Family and friends continue to shower me with duck-theme gifts.

2) Ducks and duck ponds seemed an apt metaphor for this blog, because my appreciation for and critical understanding of the Pacific Northwest grows with every “migration” into the world beyond the limits of my first watery home. (And what a watery home it is.)

3) Duckponds are a combination of man-made and natural elements and I want to emphasize that I am striving for a lifestyle that supports the human community I live in as well as the natural ecosystem.

The Pacific Northwest is my duck pond. Stop by, play in the water, but try to keep it clean.

But how is it a duck pond if there aren’t any ducks?” ~The Doctor (Flesh and Stone, Season 6, episode 5)
